No More LOOK!
Dear Students:

As the LOOK program ends, Kathy and I want you to know that it has been a pleasure working with you this semester. We are doing evaluations now on each student, making recommendations on who should move onto LEAP this summer.

In making our decisions, we are looking at your writing samples, vocabulary quizzes, attendance, class participation and ability to respond to texts in class. Please hand in rewrites of drafts if you haven’t done so already. That will only help in our evaluations.

If you are not recommended for LEAP, we want you to consider the following academic options for ESL:

Community College of Rhode Island
Center for Workforce and Community Education ESL Classes
These classes emphasize grammar, conversation, pronunciation and move onto reading and writing at higher levels.
see page 6 of summer brochure here:

Info on CCRI’s English Department’s ESL Classes
The English Department at CCRI has developmental credit ESL classes that work on academic reading and writing. There are 4 levels of classes. You need to take the Accuplacer Exam to determine your level.

Before you go to CCRI, study for the Accuplacer exam!

Just to get us thinking about Law Day and the discussion about gun control legislation in RI, tomorrow at 5:30, room 260, take a look at what is going on with gun legislation in neighboring Connecticut. Is it good for RI too?

Hi Everyone,

Next Wednesday, we'll have class in Room 260, where we will participate in Law Day at URI.

Class will be from 5:30-8:30, so please be here as soon as you can. We'll ask you to read some of the handouts about Gun Control in RI, this year's topic. We'll listen to a guest speaker, a Rhode Island Legislator,  and have a group discussion on Gun Control.

Food will be provided!

Be prepared to share your opinion and get the packet of information from Kathy if you didn't get it in class.

This is our class next week. Please make every effort to be there.
